Why Monochrome?
A monochrome astrophotography camera can collect more signal (light) than a color camera can. (3 times as much, to be exact).
All the Light wells on a camera chip are monochrome. They can’t themselves differentiate between red, green or blue photons.
The Bayer filter array found in a color camera reduces the amount of overall light recorded on your image.
