The ASI 585 MC Colour USB Camera will offer great performance for planetary and lunar imaging.

The ASI585MC is the upgraded model to the 485MC version, with new improved  QE Peak and Full Well performance, it also offers a higher frame rate of 46.9 fps. It is also more sensitive to red, green and near infrared light, 1.5 times greater sensitivity compared to the ASI485MC

Thanks to the back illuminated sensor structure and advanced pixel technology, this model has a very low readout noise and large full well depth. Especially in low light conditions, this camera performs excellent, capturing very clear images of celestial objects.

It is not recommended for primarily deep space photography, AOC suggest a fan cooled model for all deep space object long exposure photography.

The ASI585MC camera exhibits no amp glow, no matter how long the exposure and how high the gain value is set, due to improved hardware  which does not require software control.

The ASI585MC has the same pixel size of the ASI462MC at 2.9um, however the resolution is 4 times larger, which is a total of 8.29 mp. The sensor size is 11.12 x 6.26mm with a diagonal length of 12.84mm. This 1/12″ large sensor format makes it very suitable for solar and lunar imaging. It can be used as an all sky camera or live camera to observe and monitor clouds, rain and meteors and other weathe conditions.

Low read noise, high dynamic range – This model camera has a build in HCG mode, which can effectiely reduce readout noise at high gain and allow the camera to maintain the same high dynamic range as it does at low gain. When the gain is 252, the HCG mode is automatically turned on and the dynamic range reaches a level close to 12bit, the readoutnoise is low as 1.5e.

Sony’s image sensors with STARVIS technology have the sensitivity well above that of the human eye, they deliver excellent performance in the low illumination.
