Astro Night Astronomy Torch GAC-X GACX

An Astro Night Astronomy Torch is a must have for any astronomers accessory kit! The kind of torch you would only need to buy once and keep forever.

This flashlight offers two lighting outputs, a single LED flashlight and dual coloured red or white rotating adjustable COB light with two brightness settings, ideal for astronomers and night vision support.

Integrated with a magnet and hook for effortless positioning as well as an included magnetic USB-C charging dock for easy recharging and illumination when required.

GAC-X is inspired from the star Gacrux (Gamma Cru), a red giant from the Crux constellation and is approximately 80 times bigger than our sun. Gacrux is the 25th brightest star in the sky and one of the four stars of the Southern Cross.

Astro Night Astronomy Torches is a local Adelaide company specialising in red light astronomy torches and high powered flashlights.

Astronomy and astrophotography requires a lot of time outside, at night and the darkest location.
So we created a range of torches with integrated red lights and a flashlight to help with moving around and setting up in the dark while reducing the effect white light has on our night vision.

Astro Night torches also include a high quality USB C charging cable with micro USB adapter, to help achieve the best charging performance and reliability when power is required.

Why use a red light for astronomy?

Human vision is produced with the help of Cones and Rods inside our eyes, cones for daylight and white light, while rods are used for low light and our night vision.

To preserve our night vision a red light is essential for your telescope accessory kit, the red light wavelength is hard for rods to absorb, and at this wavelength the cones will not be functioning which leaves the rods to work as normal and our eyes to stay dilated.

Within the rods and cones are photo receptor proteins which differ in their sensitivity to different light colour and wavelengths, it takes time for these proteins to activate and absorb light in dark environments.

We want our eyes fully dilated and our pupils to allow as much light in as possible when stargazing, which takes approximately 20 to 30 minutes in darkness. At this point our eyes are at their optimum for night vision.
